Loxleys begins developing non-plastic solutions for charity Christmas packs and eurohooks

Continuing our campaign to reduce the environmental impact of a greeting card for both publishers and retailers, Loxleys have begun developing a non-plastic packaging alternative for charity Christmas multi-packs, eliminating the need to use plastic.

Alongside multi charity packs, we have also made a breakthrough with an integrated design for a plastic free euro-hook which can be used to replace the plastic euro-hook used on single cards.

The Loxleys  and Sherwood Group innovation team have been working to develop a cost effective plastic free solution for Charity Christmas card multipacks. Tony Lorriman, Loxleys Managing Director explains: “Traditionally this sector has been reliant on OPP plastic cellobag packaging, however we have now developed some effective board sleeve alternatives which eliminate the need for plastic.”

The eco-friendly solution is a die-cut board casing which holds both the cards and envelopes securely together, providing areas for text, branding and barcodes, replacing the need for cellowrap. In conjunction with this product development, the Loxleys and Sherwood teams have also tackled euro hooks, another area of single use plastics in the industry.

We have been working to develop cost effective plastic free solutions for euro hooks to display both single cards and Charity Christmas card multipacks at retail, recently developing a prototype alternative, The prototype design showcases an integrated cardboard euro hook which is strong enough to display the cards yet flexible enough to use. Providing a plastic free solution for naked cards to be displayed at retail level.

These two new additions join Loxleys’ range of environmentally friendly solutions, which includes; home-compostable cello bags, Secure-Seal labels to affix a card to the envelope, eco-glitters, plastic-free alternatives to gems and Secure-Reveal ‘glue dots’.

The next big project on our solutions agenda is non-plastic solutions for secondary packaging to replace transit packaging. Reinforcing Loxleys commitment to environmental improvements. Loxleys will continue to work on reducing the environmental impact of our operations and products. Our eco-range has allowed us to bring to market new sustainable solutions, specifically focused around plastic reduction. It is great to see more and more publishers switching to sustainable materials and processes. With further new product development across all areas of our business in the pipeline we look forward to working with customers and suppliers to implement these solutions.
